Abstract

Sustainable tourism development requires a balance between environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and community welfare. The increasing development of tourism activities in geopark areas may create challenges in maintaining the balance between natural resources and local cultural values. Therefore, a local wisdom-based approach is needed to support sustainable tourism development. This study was conducted in Ciletuh–Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark and aims to analyze the role of the Tri Hita Karana concept in maintaining the balance between nature and culture to support sustainable tourism development. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using interviews, observations, documentation, and literature studies. The findings indicate that the Tri Hita Karana concept, consisting of the relationship between humans and God, the relationship among humans, and the relationship between humans and nature, contributes to cultural preservation, community participation, and environmental conservation. The study concludes that the integration of Tri Hita Karana values can support a more holistic and sustainable tourism development model in geopark areas.
