Abstract
Spatial structure is an important aspect in understanding urban development patterns and the intensity of urban activities, as it reflects the relationship between the physical conditions of an area, movement networks, and the distribution of service functions. The utilization of spatial data is essential for identifying spatial structure because it can indicate the concentration and distribution patterns of urban elements in a more measurable manner. This study aims to analyze the spatial structure of Surakarta City by district in 2025 using a quantitative approach based on a Geographic Information System (GIS). The data used include spatial data on building density, road network density, and the distribution of facilities and infrastructure. These three datasets are used to represent the intensity of land use, the level of regional connectivity, and the concentration of urban functions and services. The analysis was conducted through several stages, namely Kernel Density to identify the concentration levels of each indicator, followed by scoring, overlay analysis, total score calculation, and classification into three classes based on the level of spatial structure. The results show differences in spatial structure levels among districts, which were subsequently used to determine the hierarchy of service centers in Surakarta City. Banjarsari District is classified as Hierarchy I, Serengan and Jebres Districts as Hierarchy II, and Pasar Kliwon and Laweyan Districts as Hierarchy III. No districts are classified as Hierarchy IV or V. These results indicate that the spatial structure of Surakarta City has varying levels of concentration among districts, with Banjarsari District having the highest level of spatial structure and concentration of urban elements. The integration of spatial data through GIS provides a quantitative representation of spatial structure and serves as a basis for understanding the hierarchical pattern of service centers in Surakarta City.
