Family Therapy dalam Bimbingan Pengasuhan Anak Berbasis Islam: Studi Kasus Keluarga di Desa Sindanggalih, Garut

Abstract

Children's problems such as gadget dependence, tantrums, food refusal, and weak Qur'an reading are often blamed on the child, while the family patterns that sustain them are rarely examined. The research gap is that Islamic parenting studies remain largely conceptual and family therapy studies are mostly clinical, so non-clinical guidance practice in rural Muslim families has seldom been read systemically. This study aimed to identify parenting patterns in Sindanggalih Village, Garut, interpret them through family therapy, and derive an Islamic parenting guidance framework. An embedded single-case qualitative design analyzed eight of 25 counseling reports from a student community-service program, supported by participant observation and informal interviews, using thematic analysis with source triangulation. Four patterns emerged: parenting eroded by work demands, delegation of education to schools and Qur'an teachers, negative labeling with harsh responses, and children's attachment to gadgets under weak rules, alongside family strengths. Read systemically, these patterns form recurring interaction cycles shaped by work demands, fathers' labor migration, and stunting stigma. The novelty is a three-level (individual, group, community) framework linking reframing, role restructuring, and parent support groups with fitrah, ra'in, rifq, and musyawarah, mapped onto the functions of Islamic guidance and counseling.
